BSNL has been seeing continuous rise in its net loss. Is there a short-term strategy to stop this decline? How do you plan to do that?
The era of rising losses in BSNL has stopped and now, we are turning to positive side. This year BSNL has shown a substantial decline in its losses. We are able to see very positive growth in revenue streams in all types of services like fixed line, broadband, enterprises, and mobile services. We are trying to get support from the government to manage our present cash crunch situation and are getting positive responses from the government.
You have a huge salary bill every month and in other new operators the employee productivity is far higher. How is BSNL planning to address its challenge of over-staffing?
As a state employer, BSNL has the responsibility of providing continuous employment to its employees who were recruited when telecom services were provided by the Government of India. This aspect can't be compared with other telecom operators who have flexibility in hiring and firing.
