Gujarat Government partners with DoT and BBNL to roll out optical fibre network to provide broadband connectivity to villages

The Gujarat Government has signed a tripartite memorandum of association      (MoU) with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL).
As part of the agreement, the Gujarat Government will coordinate with DoT and BBNL to roll out optical fibre network to provide broadband connectivity to villages in Gujarat. The optical fibre-based network will offer broadband connectivity to all gram panchayats in the state.
Earlier, the state government had undertaken the eGram Vishwagram Project, as part of which a total of 13,685 eGram centres were established in the village panchayats. These were equipped with personal computers connected to the internet via broadband through very small aperture terminal VSAT. The project offers e-services to users in rural areas.
